Kershaw Knives of Tulatin, Oregon has announced the release of a new balisong model – The Moonsault.

The balisong knife appears user focused with asymetrical handles and an overall length a bit shorter than the typical 29cm. It was referenced on the kershaw twitter as a sibling to the popular Lucha balisong and the handle pattern is noticeably similar.

Butterfly Knife Specs:

  • Blade Length 4.6 in. (11.7 cm)
  • Blade Material 14C28N
  • Blade Thickness 0.156 in. (4 mm)
  • Closed Length 5.9 in. (15 cm)
  • Handle Material Stainless steel
  • Handle Thickness 0.43 in. (10.9 mm)
  • Overall Length 10.25 in. (26 cm)
  • Weight 6.1 oz. (173 g)

MSRP: $249.99 ($199.99)

Personally I’d like to see user balisongs be a little smaller and a little lighter to make them more pocketable but it’s hard to get to upset at a major manufacturer releasing more two handled knives.

I have a bit of a soft spot for this knife because the handle shapes remind me of the old KMart fish knife balisongs of my youth.

What do you think of this new balisong?
